Kota Sentosa rep slams DAP politicians for being dramatic over rainy seaon

KUCHING, Nov 26 2025: Kota Sentosa State Legislative Member (SLM) Wilfred Yap has slammed the Sarawak DAP politicians for being so dramatic over rainy season.

Wilfred Yap: Dspite being part of the federal government, DAP politicians still complain as if they are powerless outsider

“Every rainy season, they come out with dramatic videos and emotional statements as if they have discovered flooding for the first time,” he said during the debate on the 2026 State Budget at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly today.

“But let us be honest. Many drainage and road issues in Kota Sentosa existed long before GPS took over the constituency.

“They are structural problems born from years of neglect when the opposition was busy campaigning instead of planning,” he alleged.

“And now, despite being part of the federal government, DAP politicians still complain as if they are powerless outsiders,” he added.

He explained he speaks for the people of Kota Sentosa, who are tired of DAP politicians who only know how to talk, blame and politicise but refuse to take responsibility when they themselves are part of the federal government.

He said the people deserve answers to a simple question, asking:”If DAP is in the federal cabinet, why can’t it fight for a larger federal allocations to solve old infrastructure problems in urban Sarawak? “Why always blame? Why never take responsibility?” he asked.

Yap stressed that Kota Sentosa’s needs are clear, such as road resurfacing, street lighting, drainage and flood mitigation, waste management upgrades, safer neighbourhoods, support for SMEs and hawkers and stronger digital connectivity

He said these require funding and consistent work year-round, weekly ground engagement, and coordination with state agencies.

“But what does the opposition offer?

“They hold press conferences, photo opportunities, and last-minute appearances after problems explode, followed by blaming the GPS government for issues rooted in federal systems, outdated infrastructure, or their own years of neglect,” he said.

Yap urged the opposition to stop using Sarawak as a stage for federal political theatre.

“If the DAP politicians want to be taken seriously by the urban electorate, then they must start taking responsibility for their role in the federal government instead of blaming the state for everything under the sun,” he pointed out.

Demand fair revenue deal for Sarawak, GPS government urged

KUCHING, Nov 26 2025: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan has urged the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to demand a fair revenue deal from the federal government for the state.

Voon Lee Shan: The time for a stronger, fairer deal for Sarawak is now. Sarawakians deserve nothing less

He said GPS should openly and unequivocally demand that the federal government extend a 40 per cent revenue entitlement formula to Sarawak, comparable to what is constitutionally provided for Sabah.

He said GPS should also table a clear, time-bound negotiation plan and publicly report progress to the people of Sarawak.

“The GPS government must also assert Sarawak’s constitutional rights and financial autonomy in a manner befitting a government entrusted with governing a resource-rich state,” Voon said in a statement.

“If GPS refuses, delays or fails to secure a fair fiscal arrangement for Sarawak, this failure must be viewed as a political incompetence and a dereliction of their duty to protect Sarawak’s interests,” Voon stressed.

He reminded that Sarawakians are no longer willing to accept excuses, saying “If Sabah can assert its rights and secure what is owed to it under the Federal Constitution, Sarawak must demand no less.”

He said anything short of that is a failure of leadership.

He believed that Sarawak’s future, development, and dignity depend on a government that has the courage to negotiate decisively, defend the state’s rights, and ensure that the state’s resources benefit the people.

“If GPS cannot or will not do this, then Sarawakians must reconsider whether GPS is capable of carrying the mandate of the people.

“The time for a stronger, fairer deal for Sarawak is now. Sarawakians deserve nothing less, “ he demanded.

He noted that the recent affirmation of Sabah’s constitutional right to a 40 per cent return of federal revenue has once again highlighted a stark and troubling disparity in the treatment of the Borneo states.

He added while Sabah has successfully asserted its entitlement, Sarawak continues to receive far less despite its immense contribution to Malaysia’s economy — particularly through oil and gas.

“Sarawakians have every reason to question why our state government, led by GPS, has failed to secure an equally strong fiscal arrangement for Sarawak,” he stressed.

He reminded that Sarawak was a founding partner in the formation of Malaysia, saying that it is unacceptable that, more than 60 years later, “we remain without a revenue-sharing mechanism that reflects the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963, the legitimate expectations of Sarawakians, and the principles of equity between the federation’s components.”

GPS will face instability if individuals act alone with self-interest, warns Fazzrudin

KUCHING, Nov 26 2025: Tupong State Legislative Member (SLM) Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has warned that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will face challenges and instability if individuals act alone with self-interest or allow personal views  to overshadow party discipline.

Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman: Which is more important? Rakyat or self interest?

‘When we break ranks and overstep the party policies, we will give outsiders an opportunity to interfere,” he said when debating the 2026 State Budget at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (SLA) today.

“Interference will disrupt unity. Disunity will disrupt stability and instability will disrupt introduction and implementation of policies for the rakyat.

“Which is more important? Rakyat or self interest? he asked, without referring to anyone in particular.

However, senior reporters covering the SLA sitting suspected that Fazzrudin could be referring to Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Tiong King Sing, who admitted that he was in Sabah to support Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates in the the state election.

The Youth wings of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) issued a separate statement yesterday, saying Tiong represented himself as the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, not as a representative of GPS.

The three Youth wings could have issued the statements on behalf of their respective party presidents.

However, PDP Youth has yet to make known its stance, which is not very likely, on Tiong’s controversial presence in Sabah which is having its election on Nov 29.

PDP deputy president Henry Harry Jinep was on record saying that disciplinary action would be taken against party members found campaigning for any party or candidate in Sabah.

Such disciplinary action is very unlikely to happen, given that Tiong, being the party boss, was in Sabah supporting PH candidates.

There are no reports of PBB, SUPP and PRS members being involved in Sabah election.

Fazzrudin, who is the chief political secretary to the Sarawak premier, reminded that GPS was built on the principle of Sarawak First – a coalition forged from trust discipline and shared purpose.

“Our unity is our strength and this unity has allowed Sarawak to stand tall and achieve what the premier has shared in his budget speech,” he said.

“We will stand united to ensure that policies and initiatives introduced by the premier are delivered for the rakyat,” he added.
