MIRI, Aug 28 2026: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tudan Resource Centre has been given a new lease of life through the ‘Dreams in Bloom: SK Tudan Resource Centre Reimagined’ project organised by Curtin University, Sarawak campus.
Transport Minister Lee Kim Shin said the initiative proved the importance of cooperation between higher learning institutions and schools in strengthening education and human capital development.
According to him, the Resource Centre is the ‘heart’ of a school, hence the transformation of the facilities which were previously quite dilapidated and limited is very meaningful in meeting the needs of more than 1,200 students.
“We are not just painting walls or arranging books, but we are building a space where the imagination of these children can flourish and their dreams begin to take shape,” he said when officiating the project at the SK Tudan Hall today.
The project was carried out under gotong-royong initiative on Aug 1 and 2 involving more than 120 volunteers comprising students, staff and alumni of Curtin Malaysia together with SK Tudan residents.
The transformation included cleaning, painting, rearranging, refurbishing used bookshelves and providing furniture and computers.
Lee, who is also Curtin Sarawak management committee chairman, said that the reuse and repair of existing facilities also incorporated elements of sustainability and supports sustainable development goal (SDG) 4 on quality education and SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production.
At the same event, he announced an allocation of RM58,000 to SK Tudan, with RM55,000 for school maintenance and RM3,000 in addition to the Zumbathon collection.
Meanwhile, Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive of Curtin Sarawak Professor Vincent Lee Chieng Chen said that the ‘Dreams in Bloom’ project is based on the belief that every child deserves a space that can inspire them to read, learn, explore and build their dreams.
“In short, we are not just renovating a room but we are creating a space where ideas and dreams can flourish,” he said.
Also present were Miri District Education Officer Jumari Hashim and SK Tudan Headmaster Lim Ai Giok.
