DAP Tasik branch lodging police report against an Umno divisional leader over a sexually suggestive joke on a Christian priest and nun

BAU, Sept 15 2026: Sarawak DAP Tasik Biru branch today lodged a police report at the Bau police station regarding a speech delivered by Umno Sepang division chief Noorazli Said during a recent Umno general assembly.

DAP Tasik Biru branch chairman Mordi Bimol explained that the speech linked a priest, a nun, and a verse from the Bible to a sexually suggestive joke.

"In the speech, a Catholic priest was depicted touching a nun's thigh while shifting gears and subsequently leaving his hand there for "a little longer." The story was then linked to Psalm 129," Mordi, who is also the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, said in a statement, after lodging the police report.

"Even more concerning, the phrase "Go forth and seek further up and you will find glory" was attributed to Psalm 129 as if it were part of the scripture, whereas no such phrase exists in Psalm 129," he said.

"Such a presentation is not only misleading but could also give the public a false impression regarding the actual content of the Holy Scripture.

"This matter must be viewed seriously, as the use of a priest, a nun, and the Bible in a sexually suggestive joke is highly insensitive.

"Furthermore, words that do not exist in the Bible were linked to Psalm 129 in order to turn the Holy Scripture into the punchline "of the joke.

"In our view, such a portrayal demeans Catholic religious figures and trivializes the sanctity of the Bible," Mordi said, urging the police to conduct a thorough, fair, and impartial investigation into the remarks. 

"There should be no double standards when religious sensitivities are involved," he said, stressing that respect for religion and the enforcement of the law must be upheld consistently, regardless of an individual's religion, position, or background.

Mordi reminded that Sarawak has long upheld harmony among its diverse religious communities, saying that value must continue to be preserved.

"If we want our own religion to be respected, we must also respect the religions of others. The standard must be the same for everyone," he fumed.
