Teenager falls into a fast-flowing river, feared drowned, at Kpg Kolong

PETRA JAYA, Feb 20 2026: A 16-year old teenager was reported to have fallen into a fast-flowing river at Kampung Kolong, Sungai Tengah, here this afternoon, Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station said in a statement.

It said the incident happened when the teenager Fahril Zaquan Bin Hasbullah and a friend were playing at the riverbank when he incidentally fell into the river past 4pm today.

The station said it receive a call about the incident at about 4.30pm from a member of the public.

Upon arrival at the incident location, operation commander Asmadi Mohamad Nawei confirmed that the victim was feared drowned.

According to information from the victim's friend, at the time of the incident, he and the victim  were playing on the riverbank before falling into the water and being swept away by the strong current,” the station said.

A search was  then conducted along a stretch of the riverbank.

The station said after discussing with the police and the victim's family members, the search operation was suspended at 6.45pm due to dark weather conditions and will resume tomorrow. 

Body of 20yo longhouse youth has been found by a search party

BETONG, Feb 20 26: A search and rescue (S&R) party has found the body of a 20-year old longhouse youth who disappeared underwater when the speedboat that he was testing capsised in the upper Sungai Skrang at Kampung Tisak Ulu last Wednesay.

Betong Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station said the body of Denickles anak Lesen was found at about 10.50am by a search party at 15km downstream Ulu Sungai Skrang from the spot where the boat had capsised at about 3.50pm on Feb 18.

The family members identified Denickles’ body and it was later handed over to the police for further action.

According to witnesses at the scene, Denickles was testing his speedboat which later capsised and he was reported to have been seen struggling before disappearing from view.

The station said it received a call about 4.20pm informing that the youth was feared to have disappeared when the boat that he was testing capsised.

(UPDATED) Search is in progress for 84yo villager who has not returned home since Feb 18

ENGKILILI, Feb 20 2026: The search and rescue (S&R) operations, both on land and in the river, are on-going for a 84-year old villager who has not returned home to Tuai Rumah Richard Tawan longhouse at Tebarong, Lubok Skrang, since last Wednesday.

Betong Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station said it received a call at about 9.10pm, seeking the firemen’s assistance to look for Igoh anak Sengaling.

“The elderly man was reported missing after leaving his longhouse to seek treatment at the Skrang Scheme Clinic,” the station.

It added Igoh reportedly left home on Feb 18 at approximately 7am by boarding his own boat to go to the clinic to get medicine.

According to family members, the victim did not return home as usual after the trip,” the station said.

It added the family and residents of the longhouse conducted a search around the longhouse area and nearby forests, but failed to find any trace or clue throughout the two-day search effort.

A police report was made on Feb19 at approximately 7.50pm.

The search focused on finding the victim's boat approximately 1.5 km from the search party base, downstream of Skrang River and on land within a 1km radius.

The party also searched for him upstream of the river within a radius of 2km.

Separately, a report has been lodged with the Siburan police on the whereabouts of a 69-year old woman, Sinuweg anak Rami, who has been missing from her home at Kampung Sentah since this morning.

According to the Siburan Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station, the woman’s son has told the police that her mother left their house about 10am today and until the police report was made she has not returned home.

The Siburan said that the woman’s purpose for leaving the house was not known to the family members.

 

 

Fisherman, 48, who was reported missing two days ago, has been found dead

TANJUNG MANIS, Feb 20 2026: A 48-year old fisherman, who was reported to have drowned while fishing off Belawai beach two days ago, has been found dead.

The body of Sabarudin Awang Kamarudin was found at about 10.30am by a search and rescue (S&R) party about 1km from the location where he had disappeared on Feb 18 while catching shrimps at the beach area of Kampung Tepi Laut.

According to an eye-witness, the victim suddenly began to sink and his hands were flailing around for help.

Shortly afterwards, the victim disappeared from the surface of the water.

The body of Sabarudin was handed over to the police for further action. 

The agencies involved in the S&R operations were personnel from Tanjung Manis Bomba station, police, coast guards, Civil Defence Department and the villagers from Kampung Tepi Laut.
