Grassroots approach is proof of GPS's commitment to understanding and resolving people's issues, says PBB vice president

SARIKEI, June 14 2026:  The grassroots approach practised by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is proof of its continued commitment to understanding and resolving the people's issues regardless of the season or current political situation.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Len Talif Salleh said that service to the community has always been a priority for the GPS leadership and is implemented at all times, not just when elections are approaching.

According to him, party leaders and machinery must always be with the people to ensure that every problem faced can be identified and addressed more effectively.

“Service to the people cannot be done seasonally. As leaders and party members, we must always be with the community and understand their needs from time to time.

“This approach has been the GPS practice all along in ensuring that the welfare of the people continues to be protected,” Len, who is also Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment,  said.

Speaking at the Simpulan Kasih Dinner at the Kampung Seberang Sarikei Multipurpose Hall yesterday, Len said that the entire party machinery must continue to strengthen its work at the grassroots level to ensure that the relationship with the people is always strong and close.

According to him, the determination to reach out to the community allows various issues and needs of the residents to be conveyed directly to the government for follow-up action.

He also said that the practice of going to the field is also the best platform to obtain direct feedback on the effectiveness of the government’s development policies and programs.

“When we are always in the field, we better understand the needs of the people and can plan actions that are appropriate to their needs,” he said.

He added that close cooperation between the government and the people is very important to ensure that the development agenda can be implemented smoothly and benefit all levels of society.

He is confident that the spirit of The continued togetherness between GPS and the people will be an important factor in ensuring that Sarawak's development and well-being can continue in the future. PBB Wanita chief Fatimah Abdullah said the role of women is very important in ensuring that the party's work runs smoothly before, during and after the elections.

She said the success achieved by the party so far does not only depend on the party's leadership, but is also supported by a machinery that is organised, efficient and always close to the people.

"The women's machinery is one of the backbones of the party's strength. That is why we need to continue to maintain our performance and commitment in carrying out our responsibilities to the people," she said when speaking at the Simpulan Kasih Dinner at the Kampung Seberang Sarikei Multipurpose Hall yesterday.

She said PBB is in a strong position to continue to gain the people's support because it has a clear leadership with a direction and always focuses on the development of the state.

Fatimah said that the leadership of Premier Abang Johari Openg has brought about various positive changes that have contributed to progress and increased Sarawak's recognition at the national and international levels.

She added that the GPS government's record of achievements in developing the state is also the basis for the people's confidence in the coalition.

"The people have seen for themselves the various developments and initiatives implemented by the government. That is why the trust given must continue to be maintained through continuous work and service," Fatimah, who is also the Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, said.

In the meantime, he stressed that the strength of GPS cannot be separated from the role of PBB as the core party in the coalition.

In this regard, she called on every party member to continue to strengthen internal unity and ensure that the machinery is always ready to face any challenges in the future.

She added that the support enjoyed by the people currently needs to be translated into continuous service so that PBB and GPS continue to remain relevant and become the choice of the Sarawak people.

Governor, wife make brief stop-over at Lachau bazaar

LACHAU, June 14 2026: Governor Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi made a brief stop-over at Lachau bazaar.

They were on their way back to after completing an official visit to Betong Division for the state-level official birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“Upon arrival, Toh Puan and I were warmly welcomed by Penghulu Lee Thong Seng, head of the Lachau and Pantu Chinese Community,” the governor said in his Facebook post.

Toh Puan and I were pleased to spend time visiting several stalls at the rest centre and mingling with the traders and visitors present,” he said.

He said he and his wife took the opportunity to enjoy local durian fruits which is now entering its season, while greeting the local community before continuing their journey.

Governor, wife attend tea reception held in conjunction with the state-level official birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong

BETONG, June 14 2026 — A tea reception was held in conjunction with the state-level official birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong  at the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Kalong Ningkan Civic Hall this morning.

Governor Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar with his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, Premier Abang Johari Openg with his daughter, Dayang Norjihan were among those present.

The ceremony was a manifestation of the people's loyalty to the royal institution, in addition to serving as a platform to strengthen the spirit of unity, harmony and patriotism among the multi-racial community in Sarawak.

The official event began with a welcome performance in conjunction with the arrival of the distinguished guests, followed by a special video screening dedicated to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The celebration culminated with the cutting of the yellow glutinous rice as a symbolic celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's birthday anniversary.

At the ceremony, a total of 50 recipients also received various forms of welfare assistance channeled by the government, including general assistance, senior citizen assistance, disabled workers' allowance, disabled persons' unable to work assistance, dependent child assistance, child assistance and patient care assistance.

The ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Premier Douglas Uggah Embas with his wife, Doreen Mayang; Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar; Sarawak  Secretary Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department John Sikie Tayai with his wife, Melia Gelen.

Also present were community leaders and more than 1,000 invited guests who enlivened the celebration.
