Dr Sim explains Sarawak's success story is based on effective governance and wise resource management

SIBU, Jan 25 2026: Sarawak's success today is based on effective governance and wise resource management to ensure the well-being of the people is maintained.

Deputy Premier Dr Sim Kui Hian said the administration's approach that prioritises the interests of the people, alongside political stability and unity between the governing component parties, has made Sarawak an example for other states in Malaysia.

According to him, Sarawak is now respected not only because of its wealth of resources, but rather because of the state government's ability to implement policies and development consistently and effectively.

"Sarawak is respected not because we are rich, but because what we do is an example for other states in Malaysia. Many parties come to Sarawak to learn from our experience and approach," he said.

He was speaking at the opening the new office of the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Dudong branch here today.

Dr Sim, who is also SUPP president, stressed that political stability and close cooperation between the Sarawak ruling Gaungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties - SUPP, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) - are important foundations for the implementation of faster and more inclusive development.

"Political stability allows the government to plan and implement development policies with more confidence, thus increasing investor and people's confidence in the direction of Sarawak," he explained.

SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong expressed confidence that SUPP together with GPS have the potential to seize the Lanang parliamentary seat in the upcoming election based on increased voter support.

According to him, SUPP-GPS only needs an additional 10 percent of voter support to ensure victory in the seat.

"When compared to the 2018 general election, support for SUPP-GPS in showed a clear increase. Although DAP won the seat, its percentage of support actually showed a decrease," he said.

The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Pujut State Assemblyman  Adam Yii Siew Sang, Meradong Assemblyman  Ding Kuong Hiing, Bukit Assek Assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek, SUPP organising secretary Matthew Chen Thin Kong, SUPP Youth chief Kevin Lau Kor Jie as well as approximately 300 other invited guests. -
