The contributions of the entire civil service machinery should not be underestimated, says State Secretary

KUCHING, Oct 22 2026: Behind every bridge constructed, every road connecting rural areas, and every basic amenity enjoyed by the people, lies the contribution and hard work of civil servants who serve regardless of time or location.

State Secretary Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki explained that the contributions of the entire civil service machinery should not be underestimated, as every development success in the state is the result of the collective effort of various parties.

He added this point was also highlighted by Premier Abang Johari Openg during his winding-up speech at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (SLA) sitting yesterday, in which he acknowledged the role of civil servants in the state’s progress.

“Their contributions are embedded in every bridge. Whether it is a large bridge or a long bridge—whatever has been built—our contributions are there.

"It is not the work of just one individual; everyone plays a part,” he spoke at a dinner held in conjunction with an engagement session between the State Public Service Commission (SPANS), State Public Service (PANS), and Local Authorities (PBT) here tonight.

Abu Bakar added that the dedication of civil servants—whether stationed in urban or rural areas—serves as a key driving force in ensuring that basic amenities, such as clean water and electricity, are delivered to the people.

He emphasized that the continued commitment and cooperation of the entire civil service machinery are vital to ensuring that every policy and development initiative is translated into tangible benefits for the community.

In this regard, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a spirit of togetherness and service excellence in realizing the aspirations of the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), with the goal of transforming Sarawak into a developed state by 2030.
