People from nine longhouses to celebrate Gawai in the dark

SIMANGGANG, May 27, 2015 - Nine longhouses in Ulu Undup, near here, will continue to celebrate Gawai Dayak without any electricity connection which has been promised three years ago.

Losing patience with waiting, they have decided to approach DAP Sri Aman chief Leon Jimat Donald to express their anger and frustration.

Leon Jimat Donald says electrical posts and cables have been put in place, but the electricity supply is yet to be extended
To add insult to injury, electrical posts with cables have been put in place, but meters have yet to be installed to the "bileks" of each longhouse.

"Promises after promises have been bandied about by the wakil rakyat for the area and he was pleading for the people's patience," Leon said today.

However, years of waiting in frustration has taken its toll on the people of  Ulu Undup.

Every time their wakil rakyat comes to visit them,  they would remind him of the promises he made during state election campaign.

"How long they are asked to wait?" he said.

"The Ulu Undup folks are even wondering whether their wakil rakyat is really working for their interests or not, as he has been busy campaigning for his party in other areas in the State," Leon, who also also Sarawak DAP vice chairman, said.
