Sarawak Forestry makes its biggest log seizure at Ulu Sg Kelawit, Tatau

BINTULU, August 30, 2017 - Sarawak  Forestry Corporation's enforcement division believed that it has crippled an illegal logging operation when it made the biggest log seizure at Ulu Sungai Kelawit, near Tatau yesterday.
Piles of logs seized from the scene
Following a tip-off, the enforcement personnel seized 3,500 logs of various sizes and 14 heavy machineries consisting of 10 excavators, two tractors, a shovel  and  dump truck.

The personnel also detained two persons at the scene.

"The seizure of logs is the biggest we ever made from a single operation," a spokesman from SFC said in a statement today.

“Our enforcement team at Bintulu regional office with the assistance of a one-stop compliance centre (OSCC) Teluk Batu, Tatau went into action soon after receiving information about suspicious logging activities at the location and discovered 10 piles of logs," the spokesman said.

He said the location of the seizure is within a timber licensed area, but the SFC personnel, however, established that the logging operation has not been sanctioned either by the SFC or the Forest Department.

"Therefore, it is illegal," he explained.

A report on the raid had been lodged at the Tatau Police Station.

The case had been handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
