KUCHING, Sept 11, 2014: Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said that there is nothing new that comes out of the just-concluded Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) triennial general meeting (TGM).
"The new line-up, though having a new president, has the same direction as that of the previous line-up.
"Issues like GST, Chinese education, land and abuse of power were not brought up at the TGM. Issues raised were only to benefit the SUPP members, not the public.
"All the seven resolutions adopted at the TGM were asking for the government posts - from small post of kapitan to the minister- for the party members, not for the people.
"But the highlight of the TGM was a Wong Soon Koh whacking. So there was nothing to shout about with the TGM," Chong, who is also Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament, told reporters today.
He said that the SUPP delegates had told Chief Minister Adenan Satem that they did not want United People's Party (UPP) to be in the State Barisan Nasional and Wong Sook Koh be dropped as a state minister.
"Therefore, it was all about the interest of the party members, " he said.
He said that whether SUPP could win, as its leader had claimed, in the coming state elections, it is up to the voters to decide.
"You can read in-between the lines. If I can see it, I am sure the people can also see it," he said.
In the TGM, Dr Sim Kui Hian was elected the new president, replacing Peter Chin, while Sebastian Ting was elected secretary general.
Human Resources Minister Richard Riot retained his post as deputy president.
On Sim's claim that he was close to Prime Minister Najib Razak, Chong remarked:"If that was the case, they would be the stooges of Umno and PBB."
