KUCHING, March 15, 2015: Sarawak DAP said that the people
of Sarawak can give Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem a chance to be the
chief minister again, but should help Pakatan Rakyat (PR) oust the Barisan
Nasional from Putrajaya in the next general elections.
"We cannot allow the Barisan Nasional to ruin the country
for another five years. We have been giving them 51 years to rule the
country," Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said today.

He said the upcoming state elections will be a pointer
whether the Barisan Nasional will retain power in the federal government, after
the general elections due in 2018.
The Sarawak state elections is due June next year, but it
can be called earlier.
"If the opposition gains more seats in the state
elections, it will provide a momentum for change nationally.
"On the contrary, if the opposition loses some of
its seats or only manage to maintain the same number of seats, it will serve as
a setback nationwide for change," Chong believed.
He said the past two state elections have been the
fore-runners of the country's general elections.
"Therefore, the coming state elections has to be viewed
in a national context, whether the country needs a change of leadership, not
only changing Najib as the prime minister but replacing the whole of UMNO/BN as
the ruling party of the country," he said.
Chong, who is also the Bandar Kuching federal lawmaker,
asked the people of Sarawak to vote in for more opposition state lawmakers into
the Sarawak state assembly to gain the momentum for a national change.
He said:"Given that Sarawak BN will still win a
majority of seats in the coming state elections
and that Tan Sri Adenan Satem will have no problem to remain as the Chief
Minister thereafter, the win-win outcome for the coming state elections is to
increase the Opposition seats in the state assembly to lay the foundation of
changing the federal government in the coming general elections.
"Once Pakatan Rakyat (PR) takes over the federal
government, the state Barisan, under the
leadership of Adenan can have the option to form unity government with us if he
continues to subscribe the clean and good governance," Chong assured.
He said Adenan, in his first year as chief minister, has implemented
a few policies that auger well with the people.
"Even if we were to give Adenan the benefit of the
doubt that he is sincere in pushing for some reforms, there are, nevertheless,
limitations on what he, as chief minister, could do for the people," he
said.
He said Adenan is powerless to stop the implementation of
the goods and service tax (GST) and the
rotten national economic policies and administration which have caused depreciation of the ringgit that has
effectively reduced the value of income of the people.
"He is also powerless with regards to the flip-flop
education policies which have jeopardised the future of our children and the
misappropriation and squandering of billions of tax-payers’ money through
scandals like the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
"The only way to reverse the downward trend of our
country is to change the federal government and that will depend on the results
of the coming state elections," he said.
