KUCHING, April 26, 2015. Was a tour to China a scam? That
appeared to be so.
Sarawak PKR Youth ,in
a statement today, said it has received
a complaint that a reputable tour agency in Malaysia was alleged to have been
involved in a scam together with a few companies in China.
Youth deputy chief Simon Siah revealed that a tour guide
agency from Malaysia arranged for a tour in China with the itinerary for the
places to be visited all properly stated.

"However, the company did not follow the itinerary
but went on and brought the tourists to shops that were not within the
itinerary or the travel agreement.
"After the trip, it was eventually found out that
the shops was found to have been blacklisted in China and the items that they
had bought were fake.
"When confronted, the agency gave excuses and did
not want to compensate or refund the complainants’ money.
"The tour agency purposely made the refund process
very difficult in the hope that some of them would actually give up and not
claim for the refund anymore," Siah said.
"The good news is the complainant eventually got his
refund and all his monies back from the tour agency.
Siah advised the public to take extra precautionary
measures as such such scam could happen again to anyone.
"If you have bought gold from the blacklisted
company, bring it to be examined to see its authenticity.
"If you are using a credit card, immediately lodge a
report with the bank where the credit card is issued as the bank would be able
to help to stop the transaction.
"Furthermore, such reports will help the credit card
companies such as Visa, Mastercard or American Express to withdraw their credit
card payment services to the blacklisted companies," Siah, who is also a
practising lawyer, said, advising the public to lodge police reports against
the agency as this is considered to be criminal fraud and punishable under the
law.
