Malayans have a lot to learn from Sarawakians, says Masing

KUCHING, April 14, 2015: Land Development Minister Tan Sri James Masing said Malayans have a lot to learn from Sarawakians on religious and racial harmony.

"In Sarawak, we live in harmony and we extend assistance to those who need our help, regardless of their religious and racial backgrounds," he said, adding that Sarawakians dislike religious bigots from Malaya from entering the state.

"Apart from  taking care of our own religions, we also help other religions and religious bodies to raise fund to build their temples or churches," Masing, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president, said when handing over RM35,000 to Persatuan Penganut Kuil Nadugong Kuching here yesterday.

The association's president Jong Kiam Chun received the donation at the Ministry of Land Development's Office.

The association has been allocated a piece of land at Upland road by the state government to build its new temple.  The association has been using a building at Peace road as its place for worship until recently when the building gave way to development.

Jong, who is a protem president of the Kuching Veteran Pressmen Society, said the association needs about RM600,000 to construct a new temple.

He praised PRS leaders for taking the lead in giving  donation to the association.

"They have demonstrated an outstanding generosity with their effort to support our temple project," he said.
