Speaking at the launch, Chong assured the people of
Sungai Asap Koyan that the presence of the party is not to divide them, alleged
by some Barisan Nasional supporters.
"We are there to offer to the people an alternative
and our service. If the presence of a political party is to be taken as to
divide and split the people, then we might as well not have elections," he
added.
He said DAP believes in consistent political education
and service to the people, especially during non-election time.
"As such, we have decided to set up the service
centre, to be operated by our Belaga pro-tem committee chairperson, Kenneth
Adan Silek," Chong, who is also Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament and
Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman, said.
He said told them that, despite them living in the
jungle, policies decided by politicians will affect them nevertheless.
"Therefore, it is pertinent that they must be
concerned with political development," he said, citing an example, the
people at Sungai Asap Koyan were originally from the Bakun Dam area.
"This has led to the beginning of their plights. It
is the policy of the government that decided to build dam and to resettle them
to Sungai Asap.

"They were given only three acres of land for each
household while the government can give to crony companies thousands of acres. That is also policy.
Good government implement policies to solve people’s
problem, but bad government implement policies to create problems for the
people.
"Sungai Asap people’s problems are created by bad
policies of the Barisan Nasional which put the cronies’ interest over people’s
interest," he said.
He added:"Therefore, to indicate their disapproval
of the BN’s policies, they must let BN fall in Sungai Asap in the coming State
Elections."
