S4S activist Fong Pau Teck handing over Memo to the Queen of England at the British High Commission

KUALA LUMPUR, December 8, 2016- A representative of the Sarawak For Sarawakians (S4S) civil rights group Fong Pau Teck today turned up at the British High Commission here to successfully hand over a Memorandum to the Queen of England.

This was the second attempt to deliver the Memorandum on the Malaysia Agreement after the earlier one posted in February 2014 was returned unopened after three months.

“We trust that this time around, we will not be wasting our efforts through massive British bureaucracy and red tape”, Fong, a former state assemblyman for Pujut, said.

The Memorandum was accepted by an officer of the British High Commission, where a copy to British Prime Minister Theresa May was also attached.

“MA63 cannot simply be swept aside when we live in the Federation that is created by it.  The fact will always remain that without the agreement, there is no Federation called Malaysia.

"We stand by our effort to reach out in good faith to the British Government as architect and principal signatory of MA63, in the fervent belief that the destiny of Sarawakians are always in the good hands of the British Administrators as our history has shown," explains Fong.

“The Memorandum also seeks to redress any irregularities in the decolonization process in transferring the sovereignty of Sarawak without granting independence, and in alleged breaches of MA63, where the British government in drawing up MA63 has the moral duty and responsibility to address the omissions and grievances therein”, he added.

“We will continue our efforts relentlessly for the good of our future generations in the best interests of Malaysians to achieve the full compliance of the Malaysia Agreement (MA63) to save the country," he said.

He said that Sarawak for Sarawakians, a civil movement group dedicated to fighting for Sarawak rights as enshrined under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 signed on 7th July 1963 by all five governments – United Kingdom, Malaya, Sarawak, Sabah and Singapore (left in 1965) - expresses its appreciation to the representatives and staff of the British Embassy who were most attentive and accommodative in their response.
