Brothers Harudis and Nerius  Busan and friend Remmy Leget Tanjong, all from Sekapan Panjang, Belaga, received the medals from the Governor Abdul Taib Mahmud in an investiture ceremony at the State Astana here this morning.

They were among 112 people who received various awards from the Governor.

The boat, with over 200 passengers on board,  capsized after negotiating a rapid of the mighty Rajang River, down Belaga town, on May 28, 2013.

The boat was ferrying passengers from Bakun to Kapit when it sank at Wong Bungan, just down Belaga town.

The boat, which was then supposed to go to Sibu, was ferrying passengers who were on their way to respective longhouses for the Gawai Dayak celebration on June 1 and 2.

The boat was licensed to ferry 75 passengers.

One passenger was drowned while another two were still missing, suspected to have been trapped inside the boat.

Efforts to refloat the boat have failed due to the strong current. It is still stuck among the boulders at the site.
