Jimat asks Sarawak PKR: Why oppose hudud law, but maintain ties with Pas?

KUCHING, April 2, 2015: The Sarawak DAP Southern Rural Committee said today that there is no point for Sarawak PKR to reject hudud law, but continues to maintain its relationship with the Islamist party, Pas.

"Such relationship will only give the Islamist party a foothold and grow in secular Sarawak," the committee chairman Leon Jimat Donald said after chairing its meeting here today.

"Does Sarawak PKR has to listen to their west Malaysian leaders on important issues and do not have the power to decide on their own?

"If that is the case, then they cannot effectively protect the interests of Sarawakians," he said.

He said even Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian is appointed by the national leadership, not elected among the Sarawakian members.

This, Jimat said, compromises the independence of decision making process of Sarawak PKR.

"Why is Sarawak PKR unable to follow the brave position by Sabah PKR which has severed its political relationship with Pas?" Jimat asked.

He said in a series of meetings that Sarawak DAP had  with its members throughout the state, they reached a consensus that Pas had no place in Sarawak politics due to its hudud agenda.

"An allegation by PKR that DAP is joining Barisan Nasional is utterly ridiculous.

"Party adviser Lim Kit Siang only proposed that all political parties in Malaysia to form a new coalition Government so as to push Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak out as he has been the main perpetrator behind this push for Hudud laws.

"It is Lim's suggestion that there should be a non-BN and non-PR alliance government to protect our constitution and the sanctity of secularism in Malaysia," Jimat said.
