By Simon Siah,
Sarawak PKR Deputy Youth chief and Bandar Kuching PKR
chief
I refer to DAP Sarawak Chairman YB Chong Chieng Jen’s
recent statement calling on PKR Sarawak, in particular YB Baru Bian, to sever
its tie with PAS Sarawak.
PKR Sarawak reiterated its clear and consistent stand on
PAS’ Hudud last week with regards to the Federal Constitution. We further
stated that we would write to YAB Datuk Patinggi Adenan Satem the Chief
Minister of Sarawak to pass a motion in the State Assembly that hudud will never be allowed to
be implemented in Sarawak, failing which PKR Sarawak itself will table such a
motion in the House. We have done so and are now awaiting the Right Honourable
Chief Minister’s response.

Let me make it clear that PKR Sarawak never left Pakatan
Rakyat Sarawak. In fact, it was DAP Sarawak which made the first move to sever
all ties with both PKR and PAS in October last year, and boldly chose to go it
alone when it announced last week that it has abandoned Pakatan Rakyat Sarawak.
In less than a week, it now seems that DAP Sarawak has
discovered the quagmire that it has found itself in, which is that it is now
stuck and caught between a rock and a hard place, and so DAP Sarawak’s only option
is to rebuild the bridge it burnt.
Further, I would like to remind YB Chong Chieng Jen that
unlike DAP Sarawak, PKR Sarawak remains a truly democratic party and makes its
decisions based on consultation and consensus of its Sarawak leadership. YB
Chong Chieng Jen’s insistence for YB Baru Bian to not “be so adamant about
clinging on to PR Sarawak” is uncalled for and smacks of arrogance and
interference.
AMK Sarawak would
like to draw DAP Sarawak’s attention back to the fact that our common enemy is
Barisan Nasional, and not each other. As far as PKR Sarawak is concerned, we
are consistent in our position and we hope DAP Sarawak is still true to our
shared original struggle which is to topple BN Sarawak and not flirt with it as
YB Chong Chieng Jen has done quite publicly lately. April 1, 2015
