After GE14, there is going to be a big negotiation in KL, says Karim Rahman Hamzah

Extracts from Sarawak Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah in his speech at a ceramah in support of the Barisan's Candidate for Stampin Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian at Kuching City Mall on May 5, 2018.

"As much as possible, we want to have the likes of Datuk Dr Sim, Datuk Sebastian Ting, Datuk Andrew Wong to be up there, to fight for Sarawak, as Sarawakians and representatives of Sarawak-based parties.

"This is my hope to see in the election.

"Chong Chieng Jen is a very close friend of mine. He never fails to come to my house during Hari Raya. Sometimes he comes to my office and brings the problems of the people. But when it comes to representing Sarawak in parliament, I think we really need a real Sarawak-based parties who have the passion, the hearts of Sarawakians, not a party which has to refer to Kuala Lumpur for decisions.

"Vote for my brother Dr Sim in Stampin.

"My hope is that - please set aside our sentiments, emotions and go with a clear mind, who is the one who can represent the state.

"At the moment, we have to look at this angle - we need to have a big numbers from Sarawak because after the election, there is going to be a big negotiation. We have to work out with Kuala Lumpur, whether Kuala Lumpur is being held by BN or PH. Whoever holds the mantle in Kuala Lumpur, will have to sit down with us because the state government is overwhelmingly held by the state Barisan which has 72 out of 82 state assembly seats.

"Whatever it is, you have to come down with us and that is why we need to have the numbers in parliament, not half-way.

"If possible, we need to have all the 31 parliamentary seats to be with us so that when we go to the negotiation table, we can be proud. Whoever the prime minister is at that time, we can say this is our demands for the state.

"That is why we must set aside our differences and always be together" - May 8, 2018.
