Don't use threats over Teras issue

By Simon Peter

KUCHING, May 19, 2014: SUPP Central Women section is well advised not to use threats against Chief Minister Adenan Satem on the possibility of Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) applying to join the State Barisan Nasional.

Such threats are not going to work with Adenan. To those who know him well, he may well be speeding up the approval of Teras' application because of the threats.

Gentle talk or face -to- face meeting with him in a conducive and friendly atmosphere is likely to work, instead of threatening him.

In a statement today, the Women Section head Amy Tnay is urging Adenan to be highly prudent by taking into account the "devastating consequences" it may lead to if Teras is to be accepted into the BN family.

She also reminded Adenan that any decision on the admission can be made only when a consensus is reached among the State BN component parties - PBB, SUPP, SPDP and PRS.

She also hit out at former SUPP Sibu branch chairman Wong Soon Koh, saying that the "Women Section is outraged by his irresponsible act and we strongly protest against his unilateral act in this matter. "

She was referring to Soon Koh, who is also the Local Government and Community Development Minister, who resigned from SUPP to join Teras last Thursday.

"The Women Section also condemns such act of betrayal and what Soon Koh has done is a serious violation against party discipline as well as a severe offence against the basic principles of Barisan Nasional spirits," Tnay said.

Meanwhile, SUPP Central Youth said Teras' formation has changed state BN’s existing political structure and caused much unwanted tension among component parties.

"If it is to be accepted to join Barisan, this will encourage more splits to take place in other BN parties in the future," Youth chief Tan Kai said.

"Therefore, it is with all due determination that the Youth declares its stand to object and reject Teras' application to join Barisan," he said.

He also called on Soon Koh and three state assemblymen - Dr Jerip Susil (Bengoh), Ranum Mina (Opar) and Johnical Rayong (Engkilili) to vacate their state seats so by-elections could be held.

He said that the four won their respective seats  on SUPP-BN ticket in the 2011 state election.
