Why should the people believe Najib anymore, Baru says

Kuching, July 10, 2012: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak chairman Baru Bian has dismissed Prime Minister Datuk Najib Razak's "Kembar 3K pledge to the people of peace and security, stability and harmony and prosperity and progress as nothing new.

"These are not new promises because they have been made time and again by the BN before every general election, but the fact that they are pledging the same promises again shows that they have failed to fulfill their promises, despite being in power for the last 50 years," he told reporters today.

Baru asked why should the people believe Najib and the BN yet again when their policies remained unchanged.

Baru asked:"What do the promises of the PM mean for the people in the interior of Sarawak?"

"Nothing," he answered.

He added there is no prosperity nor stability when lands are continually being grabbed by crony companies with the BN connections.

"If there were any trace of what is perpetually being promised by the BN government, there would be no crowds of dispossessed  natives coming to see me in my law office.

"What peace is the PM talking about when the plantation companies engage gangsters to intimidate the rural folks who try to protect their lands?

"As for street prorests, if the PM was hinting that Bersih and Bersih 3 were examples of lack of peace and security, he should try to acknowledge that the rallies were peaceful until the people were attacked by the police.

"In those instances, it was the very people who were entrusted to keep peace who destroyed it," Baru said, adding that there were enough phorographs and videos to show the world what actually happened.

Baru said for Najib to criticise the Opposition on morality and factionality is laughable, and is clearly a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

He said one only has to look at the BN in Sarawak - over the past few months, the public has been treated to daily doses in the newspapers about fighting within and between the BN coalition parties.

"All as a resultof the greed for power and position, which have brought the incumbents untold ricches," he said.

On the morality issue, Baru, who is also the State Assemblyman for Ba'Kelalan, asked Najib whether he actually wants to dwel on it.

He said the people want answers from Najib on the burning issues, such as the submarine deal and the blowing up of Mongolian lass Altantuy.

"What about the cows and the countless bailouts of companies connected to Umno and BN?" Baru asked.

"Clearly, the PM has no new ideas for better polices, except to offer the people more incentives in the form of money and vouchers, funded by the taxpayers, ultimately.

"We want the government that will teach the people how to fish, not one that just keeps on giving thefish to the people.

"It is unfair to the taxpayers having to contribute to Najib's funds for the incentives.

"The taxes from the people could be more beneficial to build more roads, bridges and other facilities instead of converting the taxes into cash incentives to entice the people to continue to vote for the BN," he said, adding that 50 years is long enough for the BN to prove itself, and it has not delivered.

"We need a change before our country sinks into a morass of debts and bankruptcy," he said, stressing that the people are no longer naive to what are happening in the country and they want a change of the federal government. By Sematong Express.
