Upset villagers want authorities to take action against overloaded lorries along Bukit Punda-Simunjan Road

SIMUNJAN, December 7, 2017 - Motorists travelling along Bukit Punda-Simunjan Road have been suffering in silence because of the conditions of the road.

Section of the road at Kampung Spaoh
There are many potholes along the way, especially between Kampung Spaoh and Kampung Giam/Empeli junction, despite constant maintenance work done by the contractor.

"At least 90 per cent of the damage to the road is blamed on the lorries heavily laden with oil palm fruits," complained an irritated motorist.

He said the remaining 10 per cent goes to the government for lacking in urgency to take stern actions against the lorry drivers or the owners.

"With the current raining season, travelling along this road can be rather challenging. We have to take extra precaution or else we will run over the potholes, thus causing damage to our cars," he said.

He noted that maintenance work is wasteful because the repaired parts of the road are damaged again overnight.

"We urge our wakil rakyat (for Balai Ringgin), the police and the state government to take action against the heavily laden lorries," he said, adding because lorry drivers and owners do not contribute any fund for the maintenance work,  but the government.

He said roadblocks should be mounted along Bukit Punda-Simunjan Road to check on lorries so to minimise damage to the road, thus saving taxpayers' money.
