Listen to the people you serve, Mong reminds community leaders

SRI AMAN, Feb 21 2026: Community leaders such as Tuai Rumah, Penghulu and Pemancha must be ready to accept the changes and listen to the suggestions  by the communities they serve.

Mong Dagang:  What the people are doing is not bad but they want to see their village develop further and always follow the trend of development.

Bukit Begunan state legislative member (SLM) Mong Dagang said many of the people now have higher education and hold senior positions in government agencies or companies and their voices must be heard by the community leaders.

“They should not be angry if the people always protest during Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) meetings until they are expelled from receiving government assistance.

“What the people are doing is not bad but they want to see their village develop further and always follow the trend of development,” he said at the presentation of certificates of appointments  to the community leaders for Melugu - Dau Baruh and Dau Atas jurisdictions at Entulang Danau longhouse yesterday.

Mong also urged the community leaders to use the trust given by the Sarawak government to help develop the lives of their followers.

“This responsibility is huge and that is why the Sarawak government has increased their allowances to ensure that these groups are responsible for the welfare of the people and develop their settlements,” he said.

At the ceremony, Mong presented a certificate of continuation to a Penghulu, certificates of appointments to four Tuai Rumah, certificates of continuation to 37 Tuai Rumah and certificates of recognition for their services as community leaders.

He also approved an allocation of RM10,000 for the Village Development and Security Community Committee of Noria Ampat longhouse at Entulang Danau to support their longhouse activities.

Also present were Sri Aman Resident representative Josephine Thomas, Sri Aman District Office Administrative Officer Joshua Martin Jantan and Sri Aman Iban community leader Temenggong Leonard Libau Anol.
