All candidates for community leaders must undergo screening tests by the police and MACC, says Mong

PANTU, Feb 27 2026: Every candidate for community leadership, including the Tuai Rumah, is required to undergo screening by the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) before being approved by the state government to ensure that the integrity of community leadership is maintained.

Bukit Begunan SLA Mong Dagang says candidates who have passed the screening tests by the police and MACC will be approved by the state government

Bukit Begunan State Legislative Assembly (SLA) Mong Dagang said the move is aimed at ensuring that community leaders are free from criminal records and corruption.

“The vetting process will begin in the early phases of nominations for community leaders. The police will act to check the individual’s security background while the MACC will check the integrity and corruption issues.

“If they are clean, then only the candidates will be approved by the minister or state authorities. With this process, only then will the people have a truly clean and trustworthy community leader,” he said at the handing over of Letters of Appointment and Extension of Community and Community Leaders in Bukit Begunan state constituency yesterday.

Mong dismissed allegations that SLAs have interfered in determining the Tuai Rumah candidate.

“The allegations are completely absurd because an assemblyman like me does not know the individual chosen by you (longhouse residents) to be your Tuai Rumah.

“Our role is to support. However, the longhouse residents must act to choose a truly qualified Tuai Rumah candidate so that he can lead and maintain the development of their lives better from time to time,” he said.

At the same event, ong announced an allocation of the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) amounting to RM50,000 to Selanjan Jalong Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) for the construction of roads or stores.

He also announced a RM10,000 allocation for Selanjan Jalong JKKK and RM4,000 for the women's bureau of the longhouse.

A total of 22 Tuai Rumah and three Penghulu under the jurisdiction of Kara-Selanjan had their service terms extended at the ceremony,
