SERIAN, July 4 2026: A 37-year old woman was killed while her 65-year old mother suffers second degree burns when their house at Km23, Jalan Tebedu, Kampung Tubih Batu Raung was completely destroyed in a fire early this morning.
Serian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesman said the charred remains of the woman were found in what was used to be the toilet after the house was completely razed to the ground.
“The fire could have started after mid-night last night,” the spokesman said in a statement, adding that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire was successfully extinguished by firemen at 1.15am.
According to the spokesman, quoting Serian Hospital, the mother suffers 38 per cent burns (second degree) on her face, neck, back of the body, hands and soles of her feet) and was sent by villagers to Serian Hospital for treatment before the firefighters arrived at the location.
The spokesman said work to remove the remains of the daughter was carried out together with the police and paramedics from the Serian Hospital.
The remains were handed over to the police for further action.
