KUCHING, Oct 10, 2014: DAP Sri Aman chief Leon Jimat Donald
will be writing to Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin over allegations by
parents that there were "some devious" efforts to convert their
children, who are studying at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara in Betong, to Islam.
He said he has been approached by the parents at his
office in Sri Aman on the allegations.
"They also alleged that their children are barred
from bringing their Bibles to their boarding schools and the male students are
forced to wear songkok," Leon (picture) said in a press statement.
"If what have been alleged are true, then I remind
the teachers to stop conversion tactics and I will be writing a letter of
complaint to Muhyiddin, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, " he said.
"This is Sarawak and such actions do not bode well
to the citizens of this state," he added.
Leon said he is concerned with the conversion tactics,
which he believed, were the work of teachers.
He said that there are also claims of alleged conversions
of Christians in Belaga into Muslims.
