He said Rahman was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of NMSC three days ago for flu infection.

"As he is already old, he has to be admitted to ICU," Justine explained, adding that:"He is now responding to treatment."

He said Rahman has been in and out of NMSC over the past month.

"You know when a person is old, he can easily get sick," he added.

Rahman, 86, was Sarawak's fourth Governor, holding the post for a term from April 2, 1981 to April 2, 1985.

Before his appointment as the Governor, he was Sarawak's third Chief Minister, holding the post from July 7, 1970 to March 26, 1981.

He was succeeded by his nephew Abdul Taib Mahmud as chief minister.

Rahman was born in Kampung Jepak, Bintulu, on Jan 3, 1928, to a fisherman father Wan Ya'kub  Wan Yusuf and  Siti Hajar Mohammed.
