KUCHING, Nov 18, 2014: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) is
teaming up with a local radio station Cats FM in a bid to spread awareness on
proper electrical usage and safety procedures.
Under this collaboration, SEB will disseminate information and advisory
messages on electrical safety via Cats FM for a duration of six months, from
today to April 16 next year.
Sarawak Energy General Manager for Corporate Risk and HSE Marconi Madai (2nd left) presents CATS FM General Manager Iskandar Mohd Nawawi with souvenir. Looking on are (from left) Sarawak Energy Corporate Communications Manager Ahadiah Zamhari, CATS FM Sales and Marketing Manager Mohd Alvin Justin, CATS FM Sales Executive Mohd Zarifi Hj Mohd Razali and Sarawak Energy Safety and Health Officer Patrick Sibat.
The messages are for different target groups ranging from
contractors, residents and even plantation workers in the rural areas.
A contract on the collaboration was signed between SEB
General Manager for Corporate Risk and HSE Marconi Madai and Cats FM General
Manager Iskandar Mohd Nawawi.
Commenting on the collaboration, Marconi stressed the
importance of educating the people on electrical safety as it could save lives.
“One of the most common accidents involves excavation
activities nearby our underground cables. These are high voltage cables and
once struck, not only would this interrupt power supply but workers doing the
excavation can put themselves at risk.
“Part of the safety messages also targets oil palm
plantation workers who are at risk of being electrocuted if they are harvesting
fruits nearby low lying power lines,” he said.
He said the people should not take these important
messages and should be more alert when it concerns electrical safety.
Even at home, he said attention ought to be given to
electrical safety rules to avoid untoward incidences such as an electrical
shock or even a fire.
SEB, from time to time, also organises corporate safety
week, exhibitions as well as conduct safety audit and inspection on site at its
electrical installation and power stations.
Marconi hopes listeners tuning in to Cats FM would heed
the advice and help pass on the message.
