Air quality in Sarawak deteriorating, with API reading for Serian registering a hazardous level at 364

KUCHING, Aug 30 2026: The overall air quality in Sarawak is deteriorating with Serian recording the hazardous level. As at 8am this morning, the air pollutant index (API) reading in Serian has shot up to 364 level.

According to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) homepage,  hazardous air quality means it is a high risk to people and public health.

NREB said the air quality reading for Samarahan was recorded at 300 while the API reading for Kuching was 291. a very unhealthy level.

The other weather haze monitoring stations recording a very unhealthy API readings include Lubok Antu (239), Lundu (236) and Simanggang (214).

Only air quality in Lawas and Limbang recorded a moderate level, at 99 and 88 API readings.
