Chee How praises Lapok over the stamping of the Al-Kitab

KUCHING, Dec 14, 2014: Sarawak PKR vice chairman See Chee How has praised the Archbishop of the Anglican Province of South East Asia Bolly Lapok and his colleagues in the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) for their stand to move forward over the stamping of 351 Malay and Iban languages Al-Kitab.

He said while they welcomed the confiscated Bibles with the word ‘Allah’ to ACS, they also expressed regret regarding concerns raised in media reports over the stamping of Bibles.

“ Lapok and his ACS colleagues have illustrated to the world that they have the characters of identity in their faith and are true Sarawakians," See, who is also Batu Lintang State lawmaker, said in a statement today.

He added:"The squabbling over the regrettable stamping of the Bibles could have been a protracted controversy, but I am grateful for Lapok and his ACS colleagues deciding to  persevere and embrace all and call for all to go forward together to build a future for our nation.

"The message of unity, peace and hope is what we need, to welcome an uncertain new year and future ahead.

"In the same vein, as Sarawakians, we must acknowledge and welcome the open letter to Prime Minister Najib Razak, jointly written by the group of 25 Malay and Muslim former top civil servants, judges, ambassadors and scholars, asking the prime minister to show leadership and urging moderate Malays to speak up," he said.

See said that they have also expressed their belief in the needs and called for consultative process that will bring together experts in various fields, including Islamic and constitutional laws, and those affected by the application of Islamic laws in adverse ways.

He  said "A People’s Movement Against Racism" has also being initiated to counter extremism and racism in Malaysia and its founding leaders are scheduled to speak at an open forum in Kuching this Friday evening.

See warned that the unprecedented depreciation of the ringgit and the free falling crude petroleum price and major cash crops  will adversely affect the country’s economy in the immediate future.

"The disharmony caused by the racist and religious bigots together with the poor governance infested with corruption, financial mismanagement and wastages will certainly inflict irreparable damages to our country.

"We should therefore be heartened and be encouraged by the voices of the moderates which will promote unity amongst Malaysians and hope that we can endure th e immediate uncertain future," he said.
