KUCHING, Jan 19, 2015: To ensure the safety of
people in flood-hit areas, Sarawak Energy is shutting down substations in
several areas affected by the torrential rain.
As
of 6pm today, the areas affected are located in Limbang, Bau and Lundu. They
include the Ulu Medamit area in Limbang, Kranji area in Bau and part of
Selampit and Bokah at Lundu.
Sarawak
Energy's technical team is closely monitoring floodwater level at these
affected areas. The team will only proceed to restore supply when it is deemed
safe to do so.
All
Sarawakians are urged to keep safe by taking the necessary precautions with
regard to electrical safety during this rainy season. Electrical hazards are major safety risks
during and after a flood as water and electricity do not mix.
It
is extremely important to remember that when an electrical appliance or
installation has been in water, it should not be switched on for there are
risks of electrocution or fire.
Sarawak Energy has prepared an electrical safety message for flood situation and this is available on its corporate website at www.sarawakenergy.com.my.
