KUCHING, May 12, 2015 -A supermarket here has been asked
not to sell a floor cleaner liquid imported from Australia because its manufacturer
was making false accusation against the oil palm industry and Sarawak.
Land Development Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing said "Wooden
Floor Cleaner" contains false information against oil palm industry and
the manufacturer of the product have falsely claimed that Sarawak has destroyed
its orangutan sanctuaries for oil palm plantation.
"I am giving the supermarket a gentle reminder and
if it does not heed, we will consider tougher actions including asking the
Ministry of Domestic Trades, Consumerism and Cooperatives to take action,"
he told reporters at his residence today.

He said the supermarket should take the product off the
shelf.
"The same product was also sold in Kuala Lumpur and
after a protest by the oil palm growers,
the supermarkets in Kuala Lumpur removed the product from the
shelves," he said.
Masing believed that the accusation against oil palm
industry has something to do with economic rather than on environmental issues,
especially by rapeseed, sunflower and soya bean growers in western countries.
He said western NGOs and competitors are a formidable
group which have been campaigning against Malaysia.
He said the state government does not allow wildlife
sanctuaries to be cleared for oil palm plantations.
"We also do not allow land near orangutan
sanctuaries to be planted with oil palm," he said, adding that out of one
million hectares of totally protected forest, about 220,000 hectares are
reserved for orangutan sanctuaries.
"At Lanjak Entimau sanctuary, the orangutan
population has grown from 2,500 before to 5,000 now," he said.
