SERIAN, July 13, 2024 - An eight-door block at Kampung Krusen Siu in Tebakang was destroyed in a mid-day fire today.

Serian fire and rescue station operation commander Sim Mui Chai said the cause of the fire has not been ascertained and that investigation has been carried out.
He said the fire station received an emergency call around 12.04pm informing that the double-storey longhouse was on fire.

He said 11 firemen with their engines from Serian and Siburan stations were dispatched to the scene.
“The fire was brought under control and that efforts to completely douse the fire was in progress,” he said in his initial report.
However, there were no casualties reported.
The fire left 43 homeless, consisting of 17 men, 13 women, 12 children and one person with disabilities.
Meanwhile, Serian Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, who visited the eight families, said they are now being placed at the village community centre.
He added the Serian Division Welfare Department has also taken the necessary actions to help the fire victims.

Riot said the quick action by firemen has prevented the fire from spreading to the nearby houses.
Riot was accompanied by Tebedu State Assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada, Resident of Serian Division Caroline Cleophas Joseph and Serian District Office Inting Jami.
