Mawat wins Borneo Best Song award with his Dayang Bintang number at AIM25 edition

KUCHING, Sept 27 2026: Fast rising young Iban singer Mawat, 24, was adjudged the winner of the Borneo Best Song Award for his song Dayang Bintang at the 25th Music Industry Awards (AIM25) last night.

Premier Abang Johari Openg presented the award to Mawat, whose full name is Gibrael Mawat Clement Saran, at the glittering ceremony held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The song was composed and written by "joget" singer Maxwel Franklin Saran and produced under MVM Music and Assapai Music Production.

Mawat beat entries not only from Sarawak, but also from Sabah.

Later he told reporters that he had not expected the Best Borneo Song category to be introduced in this edition, let alone for "Dayang Bintang" to be chosen as the first winner. 

Mawat also described the victory as a tribute to the people of Sarawak who have consistently supported his artistic journey.

He said the victory makes *Dayang Bintang* the first work to receive the AIM25 Best Borneo Song Award.
