Women's Care Room as private rest room for female nurses of SGH opened

KUCHING, Sept 6 2026: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri officiated at the opening of the Women’s Care Room at the Sarawak General Hospital.

The care room is set up to provide a special, comfortable, conducive and more private rest space for female nurses, especially those who are pregnant or need to pump milk while on duty.

The space allows them to take a break and take care of their personal needs before returning to their responsibilities of caring for patients.

Nancy said that healthcare workers are among the frontliners who play an important role in caring for and treating the community.

Therefore, their welfare and well-being also need to be given attention,”she said, adding that nurses always give a high commitment to ensuring that patients receive the best treatment and care.

In the busyness of carrying out their duties, they also need a comfortable space to rest and take care of their personal needs.

"The care room is not just a physical facility, but a form of support for the well-being of healthcare workers, especially female nurses who are pregnant or breastfeeding," she said.

The first was the bush fires near Kampung Kut which started on August 31 while the second, forest fires, along the road to Kampung Penuai started on Sept 1.

According to Daro Fire and Rescue Department, the firefighters have so far managed to put out bush fires over an area of almost eight hectares near Kampung Kut.

The department said efforts will be made to put out the remaining bush fires over a small area.

The department said the firefighters have almost extinguished the forest fires along the road to Kampung Penuai.

It said efforts to extinguish the wild fires were hampered by lack of water resources as well as no access road to the affected areas.
