No visa for Malaysians travelling to Kazakhstan

ASTANA (KAZAKHSTAN) June 14-  The waiver of the visa for Malaysians travelling to the Republic of Kazakhstan is indeed a welcoming news , Minister of Industrial Development Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said.

In welcoming the announcement on the matter by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan, A. Issekeshev, Awang Tengah said it would certainly augur well for the peoples of both nations to make business investments.

He said this at a bilateral meeting between him and Issekkeshev after he paid a courtesy call on the deputy prime minister at his office, here yesterday afternoon.

Without mentioning the date of its effect, Issekesshev said it was approved by the Kazakhstan government on June 11 affecting ten nations including Malaysia.

Issekeshev also said a task force should be formed between the government of Sarawak and Kazakshtan to ensure that the trade and investment mission was a success.

He pointed out that Kazakhstan had many resources for those interested to invest such as in the area of oil and gas, nuclear energy, agriculture, tourism, geology, wheat, minerals and other fields among others, and its location that was close to China and Russia could be used to supply Sarawakian products.

Meanwhile, Awang Tengah in his deliberation also formally invited Issekeshev to visit Sarawak together with investors from Kazakhstan to invest in the many types of industries available in Sarawak.

Kazakhstan could supply manganese and tin ore to Sarawak and to make Sarawak as its distribution centre for its products such as wheat for the Asean market, he said.

“The strategic location of Sarawak will make it a good base for Kazakhstan to market its products to ASEAN countries which has over 600 million people”, he said.

Awang Tengah, who is also the Second Minister for Resource Planning and Environment and Minister for Public Uitilities also assured the deputy prime minister that his officials would make a follow-up trip to Kazakhstan deliberate more on the potential  investments to be made by Sarawak investors and vice-versa.

He said the potential areas of investments in Sarawak, among others, were in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy, halal hub, education, timber industry, furniture,oil palm, integrated property development and tourism.

Malaysia was also known for its pharmceutical products, electronic, biotechonolgy  and  a major exporter of rubber, among other things, he added.

Yesterday, the Sarawak delegation came to Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan to continue with its mission to hold the Trade and Investment Opportunities Forum in Sarawak and business match making meeting with the Astana business people, the first one was held in Almaty, the financial centre of Kazakhstan. 

Also present at the meeting were, Sarawak State Assembly Speaker Asfia Awang Nassar,  Hidayat Abdul Hamid, Malaysian Ambassador to Kazakhstan  and STIDC General Manager  Sarudu Hoklai.
