Where is the new Sri Aman hospital, Najib asked

KUCHING, July 15, 2014: The year 2013 has already past by seven months, but the new Sri Aman divisional hospital has yet to take off the ground, let alone completed.

Leon: Where is the new hospital?

On April 11, 2011, Prime Minister Najib Razak  had announced that the RM200 million hospital would be completed by 2013.

He had said that earthwork on the site would begin in 2011 while building construction would commence in 2012.

The hospital, he announced, would be completed by 2013.

He made the announcement when visiting Sri Aman, with five days more to the state elections.

His announcement was greeted with thunderous  applauses and cheers.

Looking back, the announcement was simply an empty one and hollow and it was solely meant to fish for votes among the frustrated people of Sri Aman, who yearned for a better medical facilities.

True enough, earthwork had completed. But the construction work on the building itself had yet to commence.

The proposed hospital  was to replace the existing one which had been in service since 1959.

Were the people of Sri Aman, who had voted for the BN in the 2011 election, short-changed?

Sarawak DAP vice chairman Leon Jimat Donald took a swipe at Simanggang State Assemblyman Francis Harden and Batang Lupar Member of Parliament Masir Kujat for failing to follow-up with the federal government.

"They have done absolutely nothing in getting the Sri Aman hospital built. The hospital signboard has collapsed  and what remains of a clearing is now a secondary jungle.

"The site is definitely abandoned," he said.

Leon, who is also the DAP Sri Aman chief, said that the people of Sri Aman are waiting anxiously for its 'new' hospital and all Harden and Masir can say is 'wait'.

"They seem to conveniently sidestep the issue all this while but the people of Sri Aman want answers.

"We cannot hope of being fed with promises after promises, especially with State election on the horizon," he said.
