KUCHING, Dec 25, 2014: The
organisers of the programme "Jom Bersantai Sematan 2014" are sending
a wrong by inviting controversial and religious extremist Redhuan Tee Abdullah
to give a religious speech in Sematan tomorrow.
"It is most unwise and
insensitive to invite such a controversial personality to Sarawak and to
include his ceramah as part of the official function to be held in Sematan
until the New Year's Day," Batu Lintang State lawmaker and State PKR vice
chairman See Chee How said today.
Malay language Utusan Sarawak
quoting Lundu district councillor Abu Seman Karen as saying on Dec 13 that
Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) Tanjung Datu branch and Sematan
sub-district office are the organisers of the programme, which runs from Dec 26 to 31.
Redhuan Tee is slated to give
a religious lecture at the Masjid Jamek, Sematan.
Chief Minister and PBB
president Adenan Satem is also the State Assemblyman for Tanjung Datu, that
being the case, he cannot plead ignorance of the invitation to the
controversial and religious extremist lecturer.
Complained See (picture, left):"The organisers
should know that Sematan is within the state constituency of Tanjung Datu with
the Sarawak Chief Minister presently their elected representative.”
“This is definitely sending
out a wrong signal to all Sarawakians as the Chief Minister has been repeating
himself openly that this state will not welcome racists and religious bigots
and extremists," he said.
He stressed:" While the
state authorities, particularly the State Security Office and the Immigration
Department, have banned the entry of elected Parliamentarians from entering
Sarawak apparently for political purposes, the real racists and religious
bigots and extremists continue to evade and dodge the dragnet and are able to
carry out their questionable activities in the state.
"I am therefore obliged
to alarm the relevant authorities of the possible entry of this controversial
personality and hope that appropriate actions will be taken to ensure that the
peaceful and harmonious living of our multi-racial society will not be
risked," he said.
See said he has sent out a
text messages to Sarawak State Commissioner of Police Mohamad Sabtu, State
Immigration director Robert Lian and Chief Political Secretary to the Chief
Minister, Abdullah Saidol, to register his concern and to notify them of the
scheduled public talk by Redhuan Tee at
the Masjid Daerah Kecil Sematan tomorrow evening.
He said Redhuan Tee, who is a
senior lecturer of the National Defence University and a columnist, has made
numerous controversial statements and is one who readily drive wedges between
Malaysians.
"He was investigated by
the Defence Ministry for allegedly teaching “ethnic cleansing”, the infamous
lecturer and column questioned about the building of the Calvary Convention
Centre in Bukit Jalil near the national capital, saying that Christians do not
deserve a big place of worship given that they only make up 10% of the
country’s population.
"He used his columns to
attack the vernacular schools and the non-Malay communities, warning that five
million immigrants are ready to come to Malaysia and take their places.
"He even cited MH370 and
MH17 tragedies as “lessons” that MAS should make air hostesses dress according
to Muslim norms and ban alcohol on board their planes, that Malaysian
authorities should follow Brunei’s lead without regards to local sentiments or
concerns about human rights," See said.
