SIMUNJAN, August 28, 2017 - The country's longest bridge crossing
a river is to be opened to the public early October, four years after its
construction began.

per cent completed.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri
said the bridge, costing RM211.3 million and the longest in the country, is scheduled
for completion on Oct 4 this year.
Its construction started on July 5,2012.
This morning, Nancy, who is also the Batang Sadong member
of parliament, symbolically put the last girder to support a beam of the
bridge.
When it is officially opened to public, it will replace
the ferry service as well as shorten the journey along the coastal highway.
It will also serve the people in Simunjan, Senuyau,
Asajaya and Gedong who all this while have to make use of the slow moving ferry
service.
Located near Kampung Sungai Buloh, the Batang Sadong
bridge cost RM212 million to complete.
The infrastructure would
shorten the distance and travelling time for residents, besides easing
transport of agricultural produce for farmers in the surrounding area to
Kuching.
The
allocation for the bridge was approved personally by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib
Razak during the state election campaign in 2011.
Nancy talking to reporters that the bridge will be officially opened to the public in October this year
