Dr Mahathir has contributed little to Sarawak's development, alleges Tiong King Sing

BINTULU, September 29, 2017 – Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad should put on record how much allocation did he approve annually for Sabah and Sarawak while he was in power for 22 years.

Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing
Progressive Democratic Party (PD) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing told reporters here today that Mahathir owed Sabah and Sarawak apologies for failing to give sufficient fund to develop the rural areas.

“I am not talking about tar-sealed roads here, but suffice if he could provide treated water and electricity supplies to our rural folks,” the Bintulu member of parliament said.

He said he wrote many letters to Dr Mahathir requesting for development fund but none were  replied.

“I was away when people called me for comments, and I have been reading and watching video of his speech in Kuching.

"When I watched the video I am saddened by what he said because I started as an MP in 1999 under him.

"What I saw in the video is he was talking as if he was never been the prime minister.

“When he was in power, (there was) so much income generated by Sabah and Sarawak, but he forgot about the two states.

"When he is no longer the prime minister, why does he  care so much about Sabah and Sarawak?

“At the same time, I want to ask him how much allocation that he gave to Sabah and Sarawak in a year?

"By right, he should seek forgiveness from the people of Sabah and Sarawak because he totally forgot about Sabah and Sarawak while he was in power. The people were living in hardship,” he stressed.

Tiong also took veteran opposition leader Lim Kit Siang to task for making so much noise when his son Lim Guan Eng has nothing to shout about as the chief minister of Penang.

“Kit Siang should better go back and ask his son  what he has achieved to uplift the livelihood of the Penang people."

Citing  the regular  occurrences of flash flood  in Penang as an example,  Tiong said Kit Siang would be very quick to blame the Barisan Nasional government if any of non Pakatan state is affected by floods.

“He would  say Barisan Nasional government is incompetent and not fit to administer the state whenever flood happened.

"However, when Penang is affected by flood, he would just keep quiet while his men would say that flood is an act of god,” he said.
