Body of a 28-year old fisherman from Mukah found floating

MUKAH, Jan 4 2026: A 28-year old fisherman was found drowned, about 800 metres from the beach, by the villagers, according to Mukah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station in a statement.

The remains of Awang Ismail Awang Rosidi have been handed over to the police for further action.

The station said his body was found floating at about 8.50am by the villagers involved in the search and rescue (S&R) operation.

A search and rescue (S&R) team was initiated yesterday for the 28-year old man following a report lodged by his wife that her husband has not returned home from a fishing trip at the mouth of Batang Oya.

His boat, with an outboard engine still mounted, was found floating by the search party.

It was feared that Awang Ismail that might have fallen from the boat.

According to the family members, Awang Ismail had gone out to cast net at the river mouth yesterday.

The search party consisted of personnel from Mukah Bomba station, Police Department, Civil Defence Department and the villagers.

With the finding of Awang Ismail’s body, the S&R operation was officially ended at 9.40am.
