28-year old man feared missing while fishing at the mouth of Batang Oya

MUKAH, Jan 3 2026: A search and rescue (S&R) team has been initiated for a 28-year old man who was reported missing while he was fishing at the mouth of Batang Oya yesterday.

A police report has been lodged at the Mukah station by the wife regarding the whereabouts of Awang Ismail Awang Rosidi.

A statement from the Mukah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station said the station received a call from the police at about 9.23am this morning seeking its assistance

A S&R party was formed consisting of personnel from Mukah Bomba station and the police to look for the missing fisherman.

The statement said the search party found a boat mounted with its engine, believed to be belonging to the fisherman, floating at the mouth of Batang Oya.

According to the family members, Awang Ismail had gone out to cast net at the river mouth yesterday.

The statement said S&R party is identifying the exact location where the man was feared to have fallen from his boat before begin its operation.
