Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre inks MoU with Spanish AI company on enhancing healthcare delivery in Sarawak

BARCELONA, March 5 2026 —   Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Llamalítica, a Spanish company specialising in artificial intelligence solutions for the healthcare sector, on the development and implementation of AI-powered tools aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery and improving quality of life across both urban and rural communities in Sarawak.

The MoU was inked  on the sidelines of  the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, where the state showcased its investment priorities through 2030, with a strong focus on digital infrastructure,

connectivity, AI innovation, and technology-enabled public services.

Under this MoU, both parties commit to developing and deploying AI-based solutions for clinical and administrative support within Sarawak’s healthcare ecosystem.

They also agreed to promote knowledge transfer and capacity building to ensure healthcare

professionals and policymakers are equipped to adopt AI technologies safely

and effectively.

The MoU also covers advancing health equity by expanding access to intelligent digital tools in rural by expanding access to intelligent digital tools in rural and underserved communities.

Chief executive officer of SAIC Professor Patrick Then emphasised Sarawak is embarking on a game-changing journey by systematically leveraging artificial intelligence and other frontier technologies as key enablers of sustainable economic growth and digital excellence.

Our focus is on building a robust, innovation driven AI ecosystem that delivers measurable value across public services and industries, including healthcare,” he said.
