AirBorneo to fly to Jakarta end of this month, says premier

KUCHING, Oct 5 2026: State-owned AirBorneo Airlines is expected to commence flights to Jakarta at the end of this month, opening up further opportunities for interaction in the tourism sector, including bringing visitors from the neighboring country to Sarawak.

Caption: Premier Abang Johari Openg says the expansion of AirBorneo’s flight network would strengthen Sarawak’s ties with regional and international markets, particularly within the tourism sector.

"We will bring in our neighbours who require medical treatment in Sarawak. They come here with their families, and naturally, they will have mee kolok, kek lapis, and so on. It represents the same market for us," he said at the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) gala dinner last night.

He said Jeju Island, South Korea, is expected to be among AirBorneo’s new destinations, following Jakarta, Indonesia, as part of efforts to expand Sarawak’s flight network into international markets.

Abang Johari said the expansion of AirBorneo’s flight network would strengthen Sarawak’s ties with regional and international markets, particularly within the tourism sector.

“We already have flights to Singapore, and now to Jakarta; the next destination will be Jeju Island, Korea,” he said.

He noted that flights to these new destinations would not only facilitate passenger travel but also open up opportunities for Sarawak to bring local products to overseas markets.

He added that Sarawak food products, such as umai and nasi dabai, could be showcased to AirBorneo customers, thereby connecting Sarawak’s products to the global market, particularly within Asean.

He stressed that AirBorneo would serve not only passengers but also the transport of products manufactured in Sarawak for sale in those regions.
