Sarawak Energy commissions new 33kV Petanak substation to cater for growing load demand



KUCHING, April 8, 2016 -  Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB recently commissioned a new 33kV substation located at Petanak area to cater for the increasing load demand from the commercial and residential customers within the Kuching city centre, especially from the golden triangle area. 

The Petanak substation will ease the loads from existing Mosque 33/11kV substation and Taman Sri Sarawak 33/11kV substation.

Swiss financial regulator probes banks suspected to have cash-flows linked to 1MDB



BASEL, Switzerland (April 7,2016) - A number of Swiss banks are involved in both the corruption scandal surrounding Brazil's Petrobras and the suspicious cash flows linked to the Malaysian sovereign fund 1MDB, according to Bruno Manser Fund (BMF) today.

"FINMA has carried out investigations into more than 20 banks in connection with these cases, and has opened seven enforcement proceedings against institutions", Mark Branson, chief executive officer of FINMA, the Swiss bank regulator, said on Thursday at FINMA's annual media conference.

Economic and infrastructure needs tops voter concerns in Sarawak




KUCHING, April 6, 2016  – Economic issues, comprising worries over rising cost of living, economic hardship, jobs and other related matters were reported by 33% of Sarawak voters as their top concern, according to a survey conducted by Merdeka's Centre.

The center's programme director Ibrahim Suffian said this was followed by the need for development gaps to be fulfilled (28%), state administration (8%) and public safety issues (5%) as found in a survey among Sarawak voters concluded at the end of January 2016.

Village headmen asked why their NCR land declared communal reserves under Section 6 of the Land Code

Four longhouse headmen from Layar in Betong, in a press conference held this morning at PKR Betong headquarters, have come forward with documentary evidence that their NCR lands have been declared Native Communal Reserves under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code.
