DARO, Dec 27 2025: The search and rescue operation (S&R) resumed this morning for a 14-year old schoolboy who was dragged underwater by a crocodile as his friends watched in horror late yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened near the jetty of Jingga longhouse, Pulau Bruit, Daro, about 5.45pm when the boy, identified as Augustine Fernando anak Nyalong, and his four friends were prawning along the bank of Sungai Kelai, a river outlet of Sungai Paloh.
According to a statement from the Daro Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station, the crocodile emerged suddenly from underwater and attacked and dragged the boy underwater.
The statement said the friends tried to help him, but failed and they could only watch him being pulled underwater.
“The four then rushed back to their longhouse on what was happening and asking the longhouse residents to look for the boy,” the statement said.
It said the residents rushed to the spot where the incident took place, but could not do anything.
The search party was made up of five Bomba personnel, eight policemen, six Civil Defence Department personnel, three from the Sarawak Forestry Corporation and 22 residents of Jingga longhouse.
The search covers a stretch of 3km along the bank of Sungai Paloh.
