(UPDATED) Man killed, wife injured when their vehicle plunges 15 metres down the slope

MARUDI, Feb 24 2026: A man was killed while his wife was injured when their 4WD vehicle they were travelling in plunged down a 15-metre slope at Jalan Balak, Pendang Lelat, near Kem Ulu  Pelutan,  in Ulu Baram last night.

Marudi Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement, said it received a call about the mishap  at  12.50am and arrived at the scene about 7.50am, a distance of 220km.

“Upon arriving at the scene, it was found that the vehicle had fallen 15 meters off the shoulder of the road,” it said.

The department said the man was still trapped in the vehicle when its personnel arrived.

The firemen, together with the victim's family members then removed the man and put him on a stretcher and lift him to the shoulder of the road.

The victim's wife was rescued by Pelutan camp workers and taken to the Long San Clinic by the Ministry of Health for further examination.

Her condition is reported to be stable.

The mishap happened about 9pm when they were on their way from Long Banga to Miri.
