PBDS wants relevant authorities to take action against an Umno leader for his lewd remarks over Father and Nun issue

KUCHING, Sept 14 2026: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) today called upon the relevant authorities to initiate investigation against Umno Sepang division chief Noorazli Said for his lewd remarks over "Father and Nun" issue, a reference to Christianity,  and to take whatever action is provided for under the law if the facts disclose an offence.

PBDS secretary general Sanjan Daik said the law must be enforced fairly, consistently and without favouritism.

He said PBDS believes that freedom of speech carries responsibility, pointing out that political leaders, in particular, must understand that what may be intended as humour can nevertheless cause serious offence when it touches upon matters of faith and religious belief,

He said PBDS strongly condemns the conduct of Noorazli Said for using the example of “Father and Nun” as a joke in his speech, which has drawn widespread criticism and caused offence among members of the public.

Sanjan stressed that religion is not a subject for political jokes, whether it is Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism or any other religion, religious beliefs, symbols and institutions must be respected.

"What is particularly concerning is when matters touching on religious sensitivities are dismissed as merely  “jokes”," he said.

He said a political leader carries an even greater responsibility to exercise restraint in his words and to avoid statements that could cause religious offence or tension among communities.

He said the party takes note of Noorazli Said’s stated "willingness" to apologise, adding that an apology should not, in itself, become a reason to avoid an investigation or legal action if there are grounds to do so under the law.
