KUCHING, Feb 17 2026: Sarawak Governor Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, graced the state-level Chinese New Year celebration open house at the Borneo Convention Cenrre (BCCK) this morning.

Like in any other occasion, they mingled well with a large number of people who turned up for the celebration.
Before leaving the venue, the governor wished Sarawakians a happy celebration.
“Happy New Year, Gong Xi Fa Cai. We pray that the Year of the Horse will bring good news and goodness to us,” he said through a group of reporters.
They spent over an hour celebrating the occasion.
Meanwhile, federal Minister of National Unity Aaron Ago Dagang said the Chinese New Year celebration continues to reflect the harmony and unity of the multi-racial and multi-religious communities in the state.
He added that the organisation of such events provides a space for interaction and integration between communities.
"Today is very unique in Sarawak. Every time an event like this is held, we can see various ethnic groups involved," he said.
Aaron described the celebration as in line with the aspirations of his ministry to provide a platform that brings the community together in an atmosphere of goodwill.
“In Sarawak, I see, this is a very lively situation where all communities are welcomed, regardless of race and religion,” the Kanowit MP said.
Various cultural performances by the Chinese community including lion and dragon dances, orchestra performances, and singing in various languages that depicted the uniqueness of the cultural heritage as the strength of the state and the nation were held.
Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof with his wife Ruziah Mohd Tahir, Deputy Premier Douglas Uggah with his wife Doreen Mayang, state and federal ministers from Sarawak and Sarawak Secretary Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki with his wife Baduyah Bujang.
