KUCHING, Sept 2 2026: Mas Gading Member of Parliament Mordi Bimol expressed his wish that the delimitation process of the state electoral boundaries must be carried out fairly, transparently, and free from any element of "gerrymandering" for the political interests of certain parties.
He said delineating electoral boundaries cannot be used as a tool to manipulate election results, but must instead be based on the democratic principle of "one person, one vote".
“I would like to reiterate my stance that I am not opposed to the proposal to add 17 new state assembly seats in Sarawak.
“The increase in representation is a right of Sarawak that can be considered to accommodate population growth and geographical size,” Mordi, who is also the deputy of youth and sportsm said in a statement.
He took note of the Notice of Recommendation for the Review of the Delimitation for federal and state electoral boundaries in Sarawak which is now officially displayed by the Election Commission (EC) from Sept 1 to 30, 2026.
He reiterated his stance that he is not opposed to the proposal to add 17 new state assembly seats in Sarawak.
“The increase in representation is a right of Sarawak that can be considered to accommodate population growth and geographical size,” he said.
Mordi said he agrees with the inclusion of Serembu State Legislative Assembly (SLA) into Mas Gading parliamentary constituency due to historical, cultural, dialectal, and local relations factors of the Bidayuh community dealing in the Bau district.
“However, in terms of voter ratio, although most of the seats under Mas Gading appear to be quite balanced, Serembu SLA only achieved around 76.6% of the average ratio of registered voters that it should.
“Serembu SLA needs an expansion of the area or an increase in voters to achieve a fair and equitable balance,” he said.
